How Eternity Changes Anxiety

  • Layla Zickefoose

Anxious kids become more resilient when they trust that Jesus is writing a beautiful story with their lives and that, through Him, our eternity is secure.

Have you ever read a book so full of suspense that you almost didn’t want to turn the page? Part of you needs to know what happens next, but another part of you is bracing for the worst.

Anxiety feels a lot like that. It turns life into a constant “what if” story, training our minds to rehearse worst-case scenarios before they ever happen. Our anxious children often do the same thing.

But as Christians, we have something anxiety can’t give us. We already know how the story ends.

We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we do know that Jesus promises to make all things new. One day, every tear will be wiped away, every fear will be gone, and everything broken will be made right. That hope changes how we live in the present.

When helping anxious kids, one mistake we often make is getting caught in the reassurance cycle. We answer one worry, then another, and another, yet the relief never really lasts.

Instead, we can continually point them to God's constant presence and His unshakable promises. We can remind our children that they are never alone, that Jesus is with them in every fear, and that one day He will make everything sad and broken untrue.

Here's the key: Anxious kids become more resilient when they trust that Jesus is writing a beautiful story with their lives and that, through Him, our eternity is secure.
